Governance

Our Purpose

The purpose of JTHCC is to promote and protect the health, education, economic and general welfare of its community members and of their children; to administer services as may contribute to the social, traditional, cultural and economic development for the members; and to govern, conduct and manage the affairs and property of the Council.

Tribal Governance

JTHCC is governed by an elected council dedicated to serving the needs of the Juneau tribal community and is led by seven
officers.

The number of JTHCC council members is based on the population of Tlingit & Haida tribal citizens residing within the City and Borough of Juneau.

Representation is determined as one Council Member for every 150 individuals, or fraction thereof, as verified by the certified membership list provided by CCTHITA.

Currently, JTHCC has 47 council members.

JTHCC council members may also concurrently serve as delegates who represent JTHCC at CCTHITA’s Annual General Assembly. The number of Community Council members serving as Delegates is determined by CCTHITA’s bylaws.

For the current term, this is set at 25 Delegates. Council
members receiving the highest votes who are not CCTHITA employees may serve as Delegates to Central Council

Together, the council oversees programs, events, and resources that uplift and serve our tribal members. Each council member and officer shall serve for a term of two (2) years, or until their successors are elected and seated.

Regular Council Meetings are held September through May on the second Thursday of the month.

The JTHCC annual meeting is held in March.
